1913 skilfully rendered 1d design featuring KGV (clearly inspired by Britain's Downey Head by Australian Bertram Mackennal) with an admiring Kangaroo & Emu, in pencil on wove paper (109x142mm), endorsed at the top "A suggestion for the/Commonwealth Postage Stamp" and signed below "EJ Nuttall/2.7.13", faint horizontal bend. Unrecorded in the ACSC. Ex 'Besancon' (II).

In our opinion, this recently rediscovered and attractive design should be acknowledged as an important concept piece and, for relevance to the Engraved 1d & the entire Georgian Series, should be ranked alongside the 1911 Design Competition entries of Hermann Altman ('Minerva') ACSC #E40 & 43 and 'Blot' ACSC #E44 & 45. [The designer, Egbert John Nuttall, a Melbourne architect & probably a relative of the better known James Charles Nuttall, was one of 5 winning entrants in the 1901 Federal Flag Design Competition, for which each of the five received £40]
