5163 4 imageEcuador, 1865, 1r Yellow Buff. Tied by manuscript "Chim-bo" cancel on Judicial cover to Riobamba, reverse with pencil "Nov 1870" archive dating, Very Fine, this being one of three known covers bearing the Chimbo manuscript cancellation, ex-Saá.
Scott No. 4; Estimate $1,000 - 1,500.

The Post Office at Chimbo was opened late in 1869 and soon after two similar fancy handstamps, also in 1869, came into use. Manuscript cancellations from Chimbo were extraordinary.

All tied by dotted lozenge handstamps and "Loja, 30 Oct, 69" cds on Judicial wrapper to Cariamanga for parcel not exceeding 20 ounces; cover with few tears at top and toning at left slightly affecting bottom of strip, F.-V.F.

Upper left portion of stamp tied by fancy "Chimbo, Franca" flower circular handstamp on Judicial wrapper to Riobamba, manuscript "¾" weight notation and reverse with pencil "20 Sep 1869" archive dating, Very Fine, bisect usages of this value are difficult to find, with about ten covers known bearing this cancellation, ex-Saá and Longhi, with 2009 Moorhouse certificate.

Clear to large margins, tied by manuscript cancel on Judicial cover to Loja, with cover originating in Calvas but dispatched at Cariamanga (Cariamanga did not have postal handstamps to cancel stamps at this time), cover turned with reverse addressed to Cariamanga, franked with 1865, 1r yellow buff, horizontal pair + ½r blue tied by Loja cds's, Very Fine, a rare usage originating from Calvas, ex-Olgieser.
