In combination with 1861, 4r black on yellow, Orizava on 1862 mourning bordered folded letter to Puebla, tied together by Orizava boxed date stamp handstamp (Schatzkes 1090); expertly repaired cover tear not affecting stamp, Very Fine appearance, a rare combination to pay a high 12r rate, 8r with only 520 issued (NF $525 for off cover singles), ex-E. Registered mail only exists in fronts because the front of the cover was cut in its destination and the addressee signed the back as proof of delivery. The front was then sent back to the office of origin and kept for 2 years and then destroyed. Only 15-25 have survived from this issue. (Image1)

Mexico, Saltillo 1861, ½r black on buff, horizontal pair. In combination with 1861, 4r black on yellow, diagonal bisect, Saltillo on 1861 folded letter sheet to San Luis Potosi, tied together by Saltillo oval date stamp (Schatzkes 1355) with erroneous 1855 date (present in several genuine items from this district), 4r with only 980 issued, while 6 bisects are recorded in the Bash-Schimmer census from this district, this is the one of two recorded with a combination of stamps and splits, signed J.K. Bash, with 1995 M.E.P.S.I. certificate.

Mexico, Saltillo 1861, 8r green on red brown. Saltillo oval cancels (Schatzkes 1355), large to huge margins; tiny thin, still Extremely Fine, a very rare stamp as only 120 issued (NF $1,500) which does not reflect its rarity, ex-Marnat & Mazepa, with 1994 M.E.P.S.I. certificate.

ONE OF ONLY THREE RECORDED EXAMPLES OF THE 1861 8R GREEN ON RED BROWN ISSUE FROM SALTILLO.

The 8r Black on Green were printed in parallel to the 8r Black on Brown to combat the illegal use of splits from six larger districts and sent only to those. However, at the end of the issue, with the central post office in disarray, the small balance of the 8r Green stamps on hand was sent in small amounts to 16 other districts including Saltillo. All those are rarities. (Image1)

In combination with 1861, 4r black on yellow, diagonal bisect on 1861 folded letter to Guadalajara both neatly tied by San Luis Potosi fancy "Franco" frame handstamp (Schatzkes 1446A), Very Fine, only one 4r quadrisect on cover is recorded in the Bash-Schimmer census from this district and 10 on cover for all districts, signed Calves, with 2017 M.E.P.S.I. certificate.
