DAY OF THE STAMP 1944 Created for the occasion of the 1944 Day of the Stamp, photo essays of six different motifs for a commemorative stamp survived. The two designs “cornucopia“ and the “magnifying glass“ were immediately turned down by
the Ministry of Propaganda. „These motifs are not appropiate in times of the „Total War“. This judgment was correct as the „Grossdeutsche Reich“ was history only few months later. (Image)

25 YEARS OF GERMAN AIR MAIL SERVICE 1919-1944 From the sketchbook of Erich Meerwald: “Ideas quickly put to paper are helpful for further brainstorming.“ Indeed he integrated the two small figures and the post horn into the motif of the
later issued 6+4 (Rpf) stamp. These unique drawings from the sketchbook of Erich Meerwald are an impressive documentation of the earliest stage in the production of a postage stamp. (Image) (imagea)

800 YEARS OF LUBECK 1943 The quite simple commemorative stamp was designed by A. Mahlau. The original draft depicted a fish with open mouth before and after the word REICH. For the later issued stamp this detail was dropped. The name of
the graphic artist A. MAHLAU is found under the design of the unissued version. His name does not appear on the stamp which was finally issued. 5 examples of the 10 photo essays which were originally in the „Fiscus“ holding are still in one hand. We
offer these five items as one lot. (Image) (imagea)
