Erich Meerwald was not only a much sought-after artist during the Third Reich. Long after the end of WW II he designed advertising posters for the film industry. Once asked how many drafts he had designed for the “European Postal Congress
at Vienna“ issue, he told Wolfgang Jakubek, that he had worked only on the motifs which were later used – except for some pencil drawings. His first final drawing had been executed in an upright format, namely that of the 12+38 (Rpf) stamp. Of this
draft we only know of the item which is offered here. (Image)
