Dated 1920, this Hebrew letter was sent by Arthur Ruppin from his residence in Jerusalem to the Litwinsky brothers in Jaffa. Their letter urges prompt repayment of a loan owed to the late Shapira's estate. It highlights the urgency of erecting a monument on her grave and emphasizes the need to swiftly collect outstanding debts. Signed by David Yelin, Mordechai ben Hillel Hakohen, and Dr. Ruppin Arthur Ruppin (1876 – 1943), a Zionist leader, economist, and sociologist, served as director of the Land of Israel office in Jaffa and played a key role in shaping Zionist settlement in the region. He headed the settlement department of the Zionist administration and later became chairman of the Jewish Agency in 1920.(Image 1)

Estreicher at Rassco. Goldmann acknowledges receipt of a letter from February 17th containing contract copies and raises queries on several paragraphs. He seeks clarification on the transfer of ownership between American and Israeli companies, expresses concerns about individual responsibility in executing the contract, and questions the feasibility of producing 50% of covers in Israel due to quality concerns. Goldmann signs off with hopes for the receipt of counterpart money and swift bond repayment. Nahum Goldmann ( 1895 – 1982) was a leading Zionist. He was a founder of the World Jewish Congress and its president from 1951 to 1978, and was also president of the World Zionist Organization from 1956 to 1968.(Image 1)

It is a heavily franked envelope, utilizing large-size official State of Israel stationery, measuring 29.5cm x 23.5cm. Addressed to the Israel Supply Mission at 250 West 57th Street, New York, N.Y., U.S.A.,-  it likely contained postage sheets. The franking totals 1,145Pr., exceeding the standard rate by 14 times according to the rate period of FA-2a. This includes multiple frankings of : 'Negev / Eilat' valued at 500Pr. ; 'Coins' at 5Pr. and  '40th Anniversary of Tel Aviv' (Mi. 55, Sc. 44) 40Pr.  in a block of 12 and a vertical strip of 4. The arrival in New York is marked by a circular date stamp dated November 26th, 1951. The rarity of heavy mail envelopes in such exceptional condition from this period further enhances the significance of this piece.(Image 1)

Only two stickers are positioned marginally in the upper right corner of the sheet. Their placement is discreet and barely noticeable. This intriguing item includes 3 values: a block of 20 stamps of 100mil (purple/brown) alongside a block of 16 stamps of 20mil (orange), arranged as Tete-bêche gutter blocks. On the reverse side, there's a block of 15 stamps of 5mil (brown), Ba #1e. The sheet measures 23x13.5cm. Catalog value $1500++.
