With fine "Trentham Military Camp" double-circle cds 9 JL 17. 6.45AM & fine circular "TO PAY 2d" h/s. With 2d Postage Due p14 (SG D21) added & canc "Letter Carriers / Auckland" cds 10 JL 17. Repaired opening tears. Note: until they embarked on ship for overseas, troops were not considered as being "on active service"! Most soldiers were sharper than this one.

NZ No. 3 General Hospital & The NZ Command Depot operated 1916-19 at Codford Camp on the edge of Salisbury Plain. YMCA logo on cover. Repaired flap tears, creased at right edge.
