6 Kreuzer brown, watermark 'Enge Rauten', 2 single values, with small EKr. "ANSBACH 27 5" (1871) on envelope with reverse transit postmark from Munich (and then forwarded via Switzerland) to Vannes in Brittany, with arrival datestamp of 1 June. Slight lack of opening and minor traces of age on reverse, otherwise perfect. A rare multiple franking and scarce diversion during the Paris Commune. Certificate Brettl AIEP (2016)

"ANSBACH 27 5" (1871) auf Briefkuvert mit rückseitigem Durchgangsstempel von München (und dann über die Schweiz weitergeleitet) nach Vannes in der Bretagne, mit Ankunftsstempel vom 1. Juni. 1866, envelope from Vienna to Rome. Due to the war, transport via Austria was not possible; on the reverse, the postal clerk calculated the postage via France (101 kreuzer) resp. via Switzerland (70 kreuzer) and noted "Via France" on face, with the red transit postmark of Strasbourg next to it. The letter is franked with 1863/64, 2 Kr. yellow and 6 pieces of 15 Kr. brown, three wide 3Kr. green were replaced (cancellation repainted here). Despite the addition, a very interesting and extremely scarce letter.
1866, Briefhülle von Wien nach Rom. Kriegsbedingt war eine Beförderung über Österreich nicht möglich; rückseitig errechnete der Postbeamte das Porto über Frankreich (101 Kreuzer) bzw. über die Schweiz (70 Kreuzer) und notierte vorderseitig "Via Frankreich", nebengesetzt roter Transitstempel von Straßburg. Der Brief ist frankiert mit 1863/64, 2 Kr. gelb und 6 Stück 15 Kr. braun, weitere drei 3Kr. grün wurden ersetzt (Stempel hier nachgemalt). Trotz der Ergänzung ein sehr interessanter und äußerst seltener Brief.

BADEN: 1848, complete folded cover from Prince Karl Theodor von Thurn und Taxis, with L2 "MANNHEIM 11 May 48" to his daughter in Ansbach. As the Prince did not enjoy postage exemption in Baden, the letter was taxed at "12" crosses despite the franchise mark; on face red "WÜRZBURG AUSLAGE ". The tax was then cancelled again, as the sender and recipient enjoyed postage exemption in Bavaria. An interesting letter from the time of the uprising in the Palatinate.
BADEN: 1848, kompletter Faltbrief von Prinz Karl Theodor von Thurn und Taxis, mit L2 "MANNHEIM 11. Mai 48" an seine Tochter in Ansbach. Da der Fürst in Baden keine Portofreiheit genoss, wurde der Brief trotz Franchise-Vermerks mit "12" Kreuzern taxiert; vorderseitig roter "WÜRZBURG AUSLAGE ". Die Taxe wurde dann wieder gestrichen, da Absender und Empfängerin in Bayern Portofreiheit genossen. Ein interessanter Brief aus der Zeit des Aufstandes in der Pfalz.

The Society thanks you for your congratulations on the election of Robert Brown as President of the Society.
1850, mit 1 Shilling und 4 Pence vorausbezahlter kompletter Faltbrief der 'Linnean Society of London' an Professor Carl Ritter von Martius, Präsident der Königlich Bayerischen Botanischen Gesellschaft, mit vorderseitig im roten "Aus England per Aachen franco" nach Regensburg, nachgesandt nach München, für die Inlandsstrecke erneut vorausbezahlt mit "6" Kreuzern. Die Gesellschaft dankt für die Glückwünsche zur Wahl von Robert Brown zum Präsidenten der Society.
Cape of Good Hope 1855/63, Perkins Bacon 6 pence pale purple, somewhat touched in one place, otherwise full to large margins, with clear triangular cancellation on partially franked cover of 3rd weight class from "BURGHERSDORP AP 4 1859" via Cape Town, London and France, to Augsburg with arrival postmark of 4 June. In England initially used "LONDON PAID", but then the "PAID" was cancelled and the letter was franked in Bavaria as completely unfranked with 1 guilder and 45 crosses. The postage paid 2 small glued marginal tears, otherwise very attractive condition for this route. An extremely scarce letter. (SG 7)

Juni. In England zunächst "LONDON PAID" gestempelt, dann aber das "PAID" gestrichen und der Brief in Bayern als völlig unfrankiert taxiert mit 1 Gulden und 45 Kreuzern. Die Frankatur 2 kleine verklebte Randrisse, sonst für diese Strecke sehr schöne Erhaltung. Ein äußerst seltener Brief. (SG 7)

1850, 6 Kreuzer brown, large margins on all sides, with Ra2 "WIEN 2 APR" (1851) on envelope to Prince Carl of Bavaria in Munich. The regular Postal Union postage rate was 9 crosses; according to a regulation, letters sent within Austria to persons who enjoyed postage exemption could be franked with half the fee, but this did not apply to Bavaria. The letter was postpaid with "6" crosses, but the prince personally enjoyed exemption from postage. A very unusual and interesting letter.

Das reguläre Postvereinsporto betrug 9 Kreuzer; innerhalb Österreichs durften laut Verordnung Briefe an Personen, die Portofreiheit genossen mit der halben Gebühr frankiert werden, dies galt jedoch nicht für Bayern. Der Brief wurde mit "6" Kreuzern nachtaxiert, allerdings genoss der Prinz persönlich Portofreiheit. Ein ganz ungewöhnlicher und interessanter Brief.
