History Study of the 1897 Discovery of Newfoundland Issues, with 10 covers and a card, using one or more of each of the values up to the 10c. The card is a 2c on an official General Post Office stationery announcing the sale of this 1897 issue,
also saying that the 1 and 2c values are no longer available. Also includes a 3c on a cover to Nova Scotia (few faults), 4c on a double weight letter to England (with unusual Liverpool SHIP handstamp), 5c on two covers to the USA, 3c and 5c on a
registered cover to Ontario, 6c on a registered cover from Ferryland to St Johns, strip of three 3c on a parcel cover from St Johns East to Bonavista, two 1c and a 5c on a registered cover to Ontario, an 8c on a registered corner card cover to
Ontario and a 10c on a registered cover to the USA "Per ship Bruce, via Placentia and Sydney". A very nice group, with various postmarks, all stamps are tied and mailed in the 1897 - 1899 period. Most are very fine, save for a few opening tears on
