1962 33ch, 70ch, 1.30 Nu Malaria Eradication, prepared but never officially unissued set (two
shades of the 33ch) in bottom margin blocks of four, NH, Very Fine; the setof three Bhutan stamps promoting the eradication of malaria was prepared in 1962, but never got released because of a basic design flaw - the Buddhist religion does not
approve of killing any living being, even a mosquito, yet the stamps featured the image of Guru Rinpoche, who had introduced Buddhism into Bhutan in the 8th century, and whose image could certainly not be depicted on stamps advocating the eradication
of mosquitoes. (Image1) |
