5503   FRANCE 19th CENTURY COVERS COLLECTION. about 120 covers neatly arranged and annotated on pages, primarily covers the period from the 1860s/70s, although there are some items including pre-philatelic from the 1830s on to imperfs of the 1840s/50s, such items include early trans-Atlantics to the US, better imperf Napoleons single usage inc "apres le depart", fancy Genovese Fleur de Lys cancels, French colonies cancels, etc, but the main strength is in the 1860s with, for example, 2x 80c Napoleons to NY, 4x 10c Ceres on neat belt advertising cover used internally, a study of the province to province rates, single usage 80c Ceres to Constantinople, similarly 80c single usage Napoleon to Mexico, Senate cancels, combination Bordeaux cancels, numerous 80c singles to the East Coast, etc., an abundance of correct postal rate covers with high values either due to extra letter sheets, destinations or both, gives this collection particular distinction, much better quality than usually seen, Fine or better (see online scans)
