stampless "USS YOSEMITE / Ship's Letter" envelope from sailor on board US Navy ship, sent to Saginaw, Michigan via Brooklyn,, transiting on June 28, 1898, Arrival marking on reverse and magenta SHORT PAID marking. The USS YOSEMITE was
commissioned on April 13, 1898 and spent most of her early time in Cuban and Puerto Rican waters during the Spanish American War. On May 10, the U.S.S. Yosemite exchanged fire with the fortress of San Cristobal on the shore in San Juan. She returned
to Cuban waters on the 19th. On June 23, she cleared the Guantanamo Bay area for San Juan, Puerto Rico. She arrived off San Juan on June 25 to participate in the blockade of that port. Probably mailed at Guantanamo Bay or San Juan. Rare early usage

Soldiers Letter from Officer in the field, 1st Infantry, Illinois volunteers in early July, during the 26-day Campaign against Santiago de Cuba, which ended on July 17. The first mail from US soldiers in Cuba were sent to Key West, Florida and
received on July 4, 1898. Only a couple covers are recorded, most damaged and faulty. This envelope is in great condtion with only a small piece missing from back corner. Arrived at Litchfield, Ill on July 9, 1898. Exhibtion item of highest

Postal Card used in St. Thomas, rare and unusual uprated 5 øre Danish postal card and five 1 øre stamps of Denmark used at St. Thomas, Danish West Indies, a remarkable usage as Danish stamps used in DWI are not recorded. Sent by a
soldier at the "St. Thomas Caserne (Garrison Barracks)" to Hjørring, Denmark at the 10 øre rate. Card has been trimmed on three sides, but stamps and postmarks are all intact and not damaged. Unusual backstamp of St. Thomas of
