and cancelled by 8 strikes of the Québec City 2-ring #3, paying a parcel post rate of between 12 and 18 ounces. Very fine and a particularly nice example of this shade / franking / rate.

on Registered Drop Letter, Contrary to Regulations, a cover with an oval Toronto return address handstamp mailed to and from Toronto on MAR.5.1878 (broken circle free strike) and franked with a very fine 3c red Small Queen, tied by a "REGISTERED"
handstamp, paying the 1c drop letter plus 2c registration rate. This was mailed in the period (OCT.1.1876 to MAY.8.1889) where it was compulsory to use Registration stamps to pay for registration charges. Tears on back and cut down at right, still a
nice example showing this scarce illegal franking.

Toronto Fancy "Arrowhead" Cancels, both with different, and ornate "A. M. Theal / Sewing Machines / Bazar Dress Patterns / Needles, Thread, Silk & Oil" etc. corner cards, both mailed to Armadale from Toronto on OCT.24.1875 and OCT.8.1876, each
with Unionville transits on back. Franking are with 3c Small Queens, each tied by a similar fancy arrowhead cancel. The second cover has its original company letterhead letter inside. Bit reduced at right, else a very fine pair.
