116 CVR 36 image1875 2c Small Queen Domestic Cover, 1c Paid in Cash, mailed from Lucknow ON on FEB.15.1875 (broken circle free strike) to Toronto (blurry receiver) via Goderich (FEB.16 transit). Since Lucknow had a shortage of 3c stamps, the cover was franked with a 2c Small Queen (pen cancelled, fault at top) and there is a "PAID" handstamp next to a "1" denoting cash payment of the 1c balance. Very fine and scarce. Lucknow is also known to have used bisected 6c Small Queens to pay the 3c rate in this period.
