Registered Small Queen Cover, mailed from St Roch de Québec on AUG.26.1876 (partial broken circle free strike) to St Joseph de Beauce (with partial Québec transit on back), with a "REGISTERED" handstamp and notation to that effect, in French. The
cover has a block of four of the 3c red Small Queen perforated 11½ x 12 (small faults) cancelled by two circular grids, paying 4 times the weight rate (with registration fee paid in cash). The block of stamps was applied overtop the despatch
postmarks and address, perhaps because the sender thought he could pay cash for the service (stamps became mandatory from October 1875). Opening faults due to the heavy original contents, else fine.
