1381 CVR/PC   imageExtensive 4-Volume Collection of British Fleet Covers and Picture Postcards, 1906-1920s, a wonderful collection paying homage to the British Fleet, mostly during World War I. We counted 237 contemporary covers and picture postcards, not including the dozen or so commemorative covers that were issued much later. The picture postcards include a good proportion of real photo ships, their crew, naval scenes, etc. There are also some patriotic ship cards, and much more. The covers, often sent to or from seamen, show a good range of different censorship labels or handstamps. Some of the ships studied include the HMS Argyll, HMS Devonshire, HMS Ruxburgh, HMS Black Prince, HMS Duke of Edinburgh, HMS Achilles, HMS Natal, HMS Durban, HMS Warrior, and many more. For every ship, the collector tried to show real photo cards, covers related to it and ephemera, including articles, etc. Quite a labour of love. overall fine to very fine, with many example pages shown online.
