A quick glance revealed items such as postage due, parcel post receipts (with interesting frankings), amateur radio reply card, three "around the world" postcards, high denomination GB frankings, several early United States stationery covers (1890s to 1920s), a postcard mailed to a Captain in the 30th Punjab Bengal Infantry in India via Hong Kong China, items mailed from British Offices Abroad (Smyrna, Tangier, Constantinople), a number of items collected for having travelled on the Orient Express, two letters signed by President Ronald Reagan, a cover franked with Swiss Ambulant Meters, a handful of various Newspaper stamps, a properly used United States 1½c Kansas overprint on cover, a few chemical censorship covers and lots more. 1367 CVR/PC   imageRemainder Lot of Various Worldwide Postal History, with a few hundred items, many interesting for various reasons. We noted a stack of about 40 Israel covers from the 1950s and 60s, some priced in the $10 to $40 range, a group of 10 covers franked with United States Official stamps (different rates, from the 1980s), a small cover album with about 65 covers and cards, mostly USA stationery, USA flag cancels,etc.), three rare World War I balloon propaganda leaflets in German (one translates as "We are not fighting for the fatherland nor for our ancestors, we are only fighting out of ignorance for the big millionaires"), a file folder titled "Czech Legion" containing real photos of infantry in Valcartier and postcards plus a few articles on the subject, another folder with 3 1916 postcards from Finland to British Columbia, all censored in Tornio (with articles and correspondence on the subject) as well as a stack of a few hundred various covers and cards, from many countries, from the 1930s to modern, noting interesting frankings, rates, postmarks, etc. Overall fine or better (with several oversize covers), should be seen to be appreciated. 1369 CVR Crash image1938 Imperial Airways "Calpurnia" Salvaged Crash Cover, mailed Helensburgh, Durbartsonshire on NOV.21.1938 (machine cancel) to Wangami, New Zealand, aircraft crashed on an attempt to land on Lake Ramadi, near Baghdad. The pilot and three crew members were killed. The stamp has fallen off, and we note a violet handstamp reading "Received in Damaged Condition / Ex Flying Boat Calpurnia", fine and scarce.

1370 CVR Crash image19377 Rangoon India "Cygnus" Crash Cover to England, mailed Rangoon on NOV.30.1937 to Manchester, England aboard the "Cygnus" which crashed in Brindisi with mail from India and Australia, with the stewart and one passenger killed. With violet boxed "Damaged by / Sea Water / in Airplane / Accident" handstamp. A very fine cover which still has its Burma overprinted stamp, considering that all the mail had to be salved from salt water.

1371 CVR Crash image1936 Ahmedabad India to England "Scipio" Crash Cover, mailed AUG.18.1936 with 18 pies postage plus 6 annas airmail fee (all on back of cover), canceled by Ahmadabad boxed slogan cancels. The airplane "Scipio" crashed in the sea off the coast of Crete during a storm, and the mail addressed to England was quickly taken to London, where it arrived on AUG.25. Two passengers lost their lives. Back of cover shows a two-line handstamp in black reading "DAMAGED BY / SEA WATER". Very fine. (Scan 1) (Scan 2) (All Scans)

1372 CVR Crash image1929 San Francisco to Bermuda "S.S. Fort Victoria" Sunken Cover, mailed on DEC.9.1929 (slogan machine) and addressed to Baileys Bay, Bermuda, carried on the "S.S. Fort Victoria" which sank in the New York Harbor, after having been rammed by the "S.S. Algonquin" on DEC.18 due to dense fog. Back has a "Post Office New York N.Y." label (with printing number of 3,000) describing the wreck, next to a Bermuda receiver. The cover still contains a lovely and colourful hand-painted Christmas card (with message written by a young child) which itself contains a contemporary golden-embroidered silk cloth. 1373 CVR Crash image1939 Malaya to Victoria, British Columbia "Centurion" Crash Cover, mailed with a pair of 4c stamps cancelled Kuala Lumpur JUN.10.1939 (?), carried by the Imperial Airways liner "Centurion" which sunk in the Hoogly River, near Calcutta on JUN.12. 1375 CVR Crash imageGroup of 8 December 25th, 1954 Prestwick Crash Covers, all but one have the violet boxed handstamp "Salvaged Mail / Aircraft Crash / Prestwick 25-12-54" and another has a large three-line SALVAGED / PRESTWICK / 25/12/54" in dark blue (unlisted in Hopkins). There are two Post Office "ambulance" covers, one with the carried letter inside. Six covers were mailed to Canada, one to Bermuda (with the three-line dark blue handstamp) and one cover, franked with a 1sh6d KGVI is addressed to Trinidad. 1378 CVR Crash imageGroup of Six April 8, 1954 Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan Crash Covers, four covers have a 45 x 14 mm "SALVEGED FROM / T.C.A. WRECK", one large envelope (with its original contents) has the same but measuring 78 x 24 mm, and another cover mailed from Québec City has a small "DELAYED . OR . DAMAGED / M JAW PLANE, WRECK" handstamp. Also, al but one cover has a "District Post Office Inspector / Moose Jaw, Sask." large c.d.s. in purple or violet on the back. The Trans-Canada Airlines collided with another aircraft, causing them both to crash and burn, killing all crew and passengers - this was on the trip from Toronto to Vancouver. 1379 CVR Crash imageGroup of Three United States Crash or Interrupted Covers, starts with a DEC.27.1920 fire-damaged cover from Vancouver BC to New York City, with "St. Paul, Minn. / Damaged in Mail Car Fire / at Luverne, No. Dak. Dec. / 31st 1920". Also a very fine MAR.1.1929 first flight cover (Daytona Beach to Tampa) which nose-dived into the Halifax River shortly after take-off (no cachet markings for the crash). Last but not least is a cover mailed SEP.20.1930 from Chicago to Greensboro NC with two-line "DAMAGED IN PLANE FIRE / AT WARREN, OHIO. 9-21-30.".

1380 CVR   imageLovely Collection of Worldwide Ship and Paquebot Covers, all neatly presented in six Lindner albums, with each page in a sheet protector. We note a great variety of ship and paquebot markings on about 253 covers, many which are accompanied by a picture (usually a real photo postcard) of the ship that carried the mail. We also note many meter stamps having to do with the same subject. The collection is in German, and all items are numbered "Bau. -Nr. 804" (with those numbers running from 479 to 934). A very clean collection, with all items very fine, see photos for an idea.
