1161 CVR   image1901 Coastal North to Bay of Islands Cover, mailed at Coastal T.P.O. North on AUG.17.1901 to Bay of Islands (AUG.16 receiver). The letter was carried by the steamer S.S. Home to the Labrador coast, then transferred at Battle Harbour, Labrador, then forwarded on the S.S. Leopard to destination. Franked with 1c and 2c Royal Family issues. Very fine and very rare example of mail being transferred at Battle Harbour, Labrador to the west coast of Newfoundland. Ex David Piercey and still on his well written-up exhibit page (with pink frame around cover, denoting rarity).

Both are very fine.

1172 PC P1 imageGroup of Four Used 1c Green Postal Cards, 1876 to 1898, first card mailed St John's in 1876 and addressed to a local person who would have picked it up at the post office (scarce, as the Whaley census records only one cover mailed in this way at the 1c rate). Second card mailed St John's in 1877, carried by S.S. Lizzie from Portugal Cove to Harbor Grace. Third card (uprated with 1c stamp) mailed Kingsbridge (St John's) in 1898 , carried by S.S. Bruce (endorsed as such) from Placentia to North Sydney, then to New York (endorsed as such, with transit marking) then to Bradford, England (receiver). Fourth card mailed Brigus in 1877, carried by the Allan Line S.S. Sardinian to Québec City, then onto Montréal (with "Carrier / North Dist." receiver). 1174 PC P4 imageTwo Interesting 2c Used U.P.U. Postal Cards, first is a 1889 Twillingate to England Postal Card mailed from Twillingate on APR.19.1889 to England, carried by the S.S. Neptune to St John's for the English mails. A few light stains, still a previously unreported example of mail carried by ship outside of the Joseph Wood Coastal North mail contract. Second is an 1895 Spaniard's Bay to Frelighsburgh, QC, via St. Pierre, mailed at Spaniard's Bay on JAN.19.1895 to Frelighsburgh, Québec (JAN.28 receiver), through St John's (JAN.19) and "Railway T.P.O. NEWF'D" (JAN.19), carried by the S.S. St. Pierre from Placentia to Halifax, via St. Pierre. Toning at right, still a very scarce routing for Canadian mail. 1179 CVR/PC   imageGroup of Interesting 1898-1901 Yukon Territory Gold Rush Items, with a letter card mailed White Horse Yukon on JAN.25.1901 to Toronto (FEB.8 receiver) explaining the trip through Skagway, etc. A 2c Numeral cover mailed from Bonanza, Yukon on FEB.27.1900 to Seattle Washington (MAR.13 receiver), through Dawson (FEB.27). Also two double-sided letters to Ashcroft, BC describing the gold rush, etc., one dated JAN.26.1898 on Commercial Hotel South Edmonton Alta letterhead and the other dated McLeod Alberta on JAN.17.1898 in part asking what kind of fish can be found there, as he apparently intended on surviving on fish.
