1141 CVR/PC   imageAdvanced and Extensive Collection of About 175 Third Class Mail "Nude" Machine Cancels, 1900s to 1940s, with some more modern, up to the 1980s. All except about 40-50 are written-up on pages (alphabetically by town) filling a thick 3-ring binder. We note several types of machines (many are International and Universal), as well as a few duplex cancels. There is a vast variety of postmarks, with inverted indicia, different hubs and killers, various slogans, some pages show a variety of strikes from the same machine, noting several usages (reason for the dateless postmarks), and more, from a variety of towns across the country. Majority are covers but also includes stationery cards, some advertising or corner card covers, a few "Householder" items, and many cut squares (these not counted in total). Overall fine to very fine, our pictures only show a small sampling. 1142 CVR/PC   imageGroup of Interesting Canadian Postal History Items, a collection consisting of about 170 different items, all assembled (and several written-up) by a collector who sought interesting or unusual items. A quick glance revealed items such as a few KGV precancels on printed matter envelopes, some covers addressed to famous people, some interesting airmail routes / rates, two cards mailed to Mexico at the 1c rate in 1908 and 1910, some used and unused "Mailomat" cards, used and unused "Stick 'N Tick" labels, bag tags, slogan meter mail, four Post Office Form 74B labels on cover, a few certified mail notices, two "bookmark" sized covers (not Canadian, but scarce), interesting third class mail, crash mail, a 1925 Montréal experimental machine cancel (the recorded LRD of only 9 reported), some high denomination single usages of the Mammals issues, an APR.16.1915 War Tax usage, a group of covers that were successfully mailed despite not franked with actual postage stamps, a few "Carded" labels, a few older change of address postal cards, a 1904 "Steamboat Inspector's Office" OHMS cover, 5 covers mailed from Father Point QC (incl. an ERD of their rare duplex cancel), a few listed fancy cork cancels, and lots more. Overall fine or better, our online pictures only show a small sampling. 1151 CVR/PC   imageAccumulation of Mostly Interesting Postal History, all put aside in a box over several decades of collecting. With hundreds of items including several different used postal forms, a Dionne Quintuplet correspondence letter, 1857 stampless letter mailed to John Halliburton - a person who challenged Joseph Howe in a duel, a permit paid envelope used to mail a sample J Cloth, some meter proofs, several free franked OHMS letters, a World War I tag that had to be attached to soldier patients proceeding to Canada, a small collection of RPO postmarks, several various instructional markings, special delivery and registered mail, and much more. Also includes an original Post Office letter informing the public that OHMS perfined stamps are now available for sale, and a list of what was available, another announcing first flight between Toronto and New York, another listing the new 1937 airmail rates, several Post Office letters listing "Canadian Postage Stamps issued since 1903, showing quantities issued, with the exception of items still remaining on sale through the Philatelic Division at Ottawa", some older New Stamp Issue posters (1935, 1942, 1946, 1951 and 1956), a stock sheet with dozens of British Columbia postmarks, and several stock sheets containing hundreds of 1c, 2c and 3c Small Queens and 5c QV Numerals and so much more. At least half of the covers are #10 size, a very interesting lot worth a close look. 1158 CVR   image1826 Stampless Folded Letter to Oporto, Portugal, mailed OCT.6.1826 (dateline inside) in St John's by favour, with oval "BARRA DO PORTO" handstamp, as well as a "160" handstamp (both in black) denoting 160 reis charged for local delivery. The letter inside speaks of unfavourable weather, etc. A manuscript notation indicates that the letter was sent via the ship "Velocity". An attractive and early Newfoundland letter.

1159 CVR/PC   imageTwo Items Mailed in Railway Stations with Large Duplex Cancels, both on exhibit page, the first is a postal card mailed Norris Arms (DNF-24 duplex is the new ERD) in 1899 to St John's with an additional "N.N. & W. Railway T.P.O. / Newf'd" datestamp. Also a registered cover mailed Avondale (large duplex) in 1901 to St John's (oval registration receiver on back), franked with a 6c Logging issue paying the 3c domestic letter rate plus 3c registration fee. Two great strikes of these scarce duplex instruments. Ex David Piercey and still on his well written-up exhibit page.

Ulunda; 1898 registered cover carried on the S.S. Damara (Furness steamer); 1902 cover "via New York" carried by rail to Port aux Basque, then S.S. Bruce to North Sydney, then to NY by rail, then across; also 1905 registered cover carried by Notre Dame Bay T.P.O. steamer S.S. Clyde to Norris Arms, then to St John's, then by train to Port aux Basque, onto S.S. Bruce for North Sydney then onto England.
