802 CVR   image1937 Coppermine N.W.T. to United States, via M.S. Fort James, mailed on board the M.S. Fort James (two-line handstamp) which sank, crushed by ice in the evening of 5 August, 1937. The R.C.M.P. ship St Roch was only 70 feet away, and rescued the 12 passengers, including this cover, which is apparently the only surviving cover from the vessel. It was postmarked on the St Roch on AUG.25.1937 (large circle datestamp in purple) and carried to Coppermine, where it received a c.d.s. on SEP.13. The exhibit page shows a lovely coloured picture postcard showing the M.S. Fort James at Tuktoyaktuk. Bit of staining on front, still one of only two such covers we have seen.
