The stamps include notable examples such as: ½r. Lilac/Gray (2), 4r. Green (23), and 8r. Red (34, including three with MEPSI certificates), all in used condition except for one 4r. pair (with paper adhesions on the back) and one 8r. Overall, the lot is in very good condition, with most stamps retaining clear or three full margins, although some have occasional imperfections. Many consignments are represented. Yellow, 1st Period, touched at top, clear to good margins on other sides, tied by grid cancel to "Vía Inglesa" maritime cover from Mexico City to Madrid, Spain, backstamped at Veracruz (June 2,1864), London (June 28) and Madrid (July 1), with red due marking on front indicating 8 reales paid on receipt. Lilac/Gray (11) and 4r. Green (3, one from the 1st Period, NF $175). Sub-offices are represented by Puruándiro and Pátzcuaro. Also included is a scarce cover from Pátzcuaro, 1r. consignment 17-1865 sub 30, with three margins and one slightly touching at left. 189 Used imageMexico. 1864 "Eagles" Issue. Puebla and Veracruz Group of 73 stamps, featuring ½r. to 8r. denominations from all five periods, including five covers and one cover front. The standout item is a striking 5 reales franking on a cover from Veracruz to Mexico, with fresh, vivid colors, bearing a 4r. (2nd Period, 152-1864) and a 1r. Ultramarine (1st Period). Overall in good condition, with most stamps retaining three to four full margins, representing a wide variety of consignments and several Puebla suboffices. Of note is a piece with two 2r. Yellow stamps handstamped in Tepeji de la Seda (Consignment 179-1864). Some duplication is present, with occasional small faults. Includes one MEPSI certificate. Scott 20-25, $1,250 as singles., , ,

193 Used imageMexico. 1864 "Eagles" Issue. San Luis Potosí ½r. to 4r., an assembly comprising 106 stamps from all periods, six covers (Salinas, Matehuala, Catorce, and San Luis), and one cover front. The postal history includes two covers from Salinas and one from Catorce, each bearing a 2r. Yellow stamp, one with a manuscript cancel, and one Matehuala cover featuring two 1r. Blue stamps; all in very attractive or pristine condition. The stamp display offers a good range of consignments, with all but five stamps being used. Noteworthy examples include ½r. Lilac (4) and 4r. Green (14). Numerous sub-offices are represented, including Matehuala, Tula de Tamaulipas (very rare 4r., 4th Period, consignment 170-1864, sub 52), Charcas, Venado, Cd. del Maíz, La Concepción, and El Catorce. 194 imageMexico. 1864 "Eagles" Issue. Tepeji-Tula 1r. Blue, 4th Period, overprinted Tepeji and cancelled in that town, but consignment 61-1865 (from Tula), on entire letter dated May 15, 1865. Pietsch recorded that a few Tula stamps were sent and used in Tepeji; although 1,000 stamps were issued in Tula, only five copies from 1865 are recorded by Pietsch in the regular Tepeji consignments. Notes (probably from Bash) state "unique". Scott 21; NF $200 off-cover from Tepeji. (Image1)

Yellow, two examples, including one from the 3rd Period, #193-1864, cancelled in Tepeacuilco (margins all around, slightly touching at left bottom, small crease); the other from the 4th Period and cancelled at Yguala, with narrow margins, touching in places. Only 363 were issued in invoice #193 in Tepeacuilco, but just three out of the thirteen, in the Pietsch census, have Yguala overprint. Some duplication and occasional small faults are present; however, the overall condition is very good, with many stamps exhibiting clear margins all around or preserving three sides. Accompanying this lot are three covers, including one featuring a 2r. Yellow from the uncommon 1st Period, and another bearing a very rare sub-consignment (#35-1865 from consignment 59-1865 to Rincón de Romos, which may be unique).
