151 Proof   imageMexico. 1864 "Eagles". No Overprint Proof 3c. Brown, unoverprinted proof in very rare horizontal pair, just touched at left, otherwise displaying good to large margins. The pair shows strong color an is very fresh, with a small scissors cut between stamps. A showpiece of key significance for its rarity and its connection to the very limited issue of only 2,403 stamps which were produced for the local experiment for local city mail in Mexico City. To our knowledge, this is one of only two recorded pairs. 1995 MEPSI certificate, which notes that it has been regummed. Scott 18 var. (proof). (Image) (Image2) (All Images)

157 Used   imageMexico. 1864 "Eagles". Mexico District 3c. Brown, 4th Period, consignment 71-1865, narrow margins cutting into, used with c.d.s. 2,403 stamps were issued for the Mexico City local mail experiment, of which only 200 came from this consignment. The exceptional scarcity of cancelled examples of this denomination arises from the fact that most letters bearing this stamp, when deposited in the designated city mailboxes, were left uncancelled, with cancellations applied only to those presented directly at the post office. A desirable example and an essential piece of classic Mexico, being one of the likely fifteen known examples from any consignment that received an actual cancelation. 2023 MEPSI certificate. Scott 18, $3,250. (Image) (Image2) (All Images)

A total of 2,403 stamps were printed for the Mexico City local mail experiment, with only 200 originating from this consignment. Cancelled examples of this denomination are exceptionally scarce, as most letters posted in the designated city mailboxes were left uncancelled; only those handed in directly at the post office received a cancellation. A good example and an essential piece of classic Mexico, being one of the likely fifteen known examples from any consignment that received an actual cancelation. 2023 MEPSI certificate.
