#9, 1c Blue, Ty. IV, horizontal pair, margins large to just in, 3c brownish carmine, Ty. II, large margins mostly all around showing portions of five adjoining stamps, tied by black grids to 1855 Garnier correspondence folder letter on prices current to Nantes, France from New Orleans, cover bears large red "New Orleans/Sep 5/La" datestamp, blue merchant's oval, 12 decimes debit and French entry c.d.s. with "Boston Am. Pkt./Sep/19" and since the cover literally missed the boat "Boston Br. Pkt./Sep/26" handstamps on reverse together with the appropriate transits of London, Paris and Nantes, fine and colorful. #10A var., 3c Yellowish orange brown, Ty. II, on thin paper, an unusual and scarce shade of the early printing of the 3c value, plus being on a very uncommon thin paper, clear to large margins on all sides, clear detailed impression, furthermore the early status of this stamp is confirmed by two strikes of black small Boston "Paid" cancels, a cancel used only in the orange brown period of this stamp, very fine; an elusive and wonderful variety for the 1851 specialist; Wilbur F. #17, 12c Black, along with 1c Blue, Ty. II, and 3c Dull red horiz. strip of three, Ty. II, 12c with close to large margins all around, the other values cutting in and a vertical cover crease affects the strip, all tied to legal size California cover to the Secretary of the Interior in Washington, D.C., stamps tied by "San Francisco/Cal/16 May" c.d.s., light cover stain at right, nevertheless attractive and a fine cover; lack of additional markings implies that this was sent by government mail at double the 1855 10c rate over the contract route via Panama, evidently the sender believed that 2c was required for ship fee and thus the extra 2c; what is most interesting is that these three values constitute the complete series issued in 1851 and it is extremely rare to find all three values used on one cover.
