30039 ,, S.G. 5 image1840 2d Blue, Plate 1 (HI–IL) Superb Right-Hand Sheet Marginal Block of Eight — Mint, Exceptional Colour. An outstanding and highly important multiple, this right-hand sheet marginal block of eight retains part of the rare sheet inscription: "Per Sheet. Place the Labels ABOVE t", adding positional and philatelic significance. The block is brilliant mint, with exceptional vivid colour, almost full original gum and two stamps mint never hinged, and remarkable eye-appeal. Its exhibition quality is of the highest calibre, making it a stand-out for any advanced collection. Note: The largest mint blocks of plate 1 are two blocks of twelve and one strip of twelve; none of these are in perfect condition. Only two blocks of eight are in private hands. The Tomasini block of eight offered here is the only block in perfect condition: the Burrus/Wills block has a light horizontal crease between the stamps. The Tomasini block is the only large block of plate 1 in absolutely pristine condition and by far the finest existing. Provenance: From the Dublin Find. Expertise: Certified by the British Philatelic Association (2025). (Image 1) (Image 2) (Image 3)
