10149   imageSoerakarta. 1868, 10 cent red strip of seven on envelope sent to The Hague, obliterated by Soerakarta half-round franco cancel 8.7 1869, with an additional strike on the front. The horizontal strip is in an extremely fine state of preservation, ideally struck by four very clear half-round franco postmarks. A tidy and fresh envelope with a neat and charming address “Mademoiselle E. Kraft, La Haye”. The Hague arrival 22.8 1869 on back. Some blunted perforations on the left stamp at bottom and we note a very slight and partial perforation split between the two stamps to the right and the other stamps; the split manifests at top (the first two or three perforations) and at foot there is a minimal overlap of perforations; perforations at centre are joined. The object has previously been described as a strip of five and a pair, but in the opinion of this describer, there is no doubt that this is an intact strip of seven in exceptional condition. THE UNIQUE AND SUBLIME LITTLE LETTER BEARING THE ONLY KNOWN STRIP OF SEVEN OF THE SECOND ISSUE IN VERY GOOD CONDITION. A TOP RARITY OF THE TAY COLLECTION AND OF CLASSIC NEI PHILATELY. The 70 cent rate via Marseille was valid May 1866-Jan. 1870. Provenance: Bulterman Collection, NPV, May 2018, lot 5077 (15000 eur hammer). In the Bulterman Collection, NPV, Sep. 21018, lot 5418, a letter with a strip of six of the same issue sent from Samarang to s'Hertogenbosch 1870 realised 22.000 eur hammer. (Image 1) (Image 2)

A superb cancel with the year and date fully legible on a stamp in excellent condition. As this was a postmark usually struck lightly in red on a red stamp, most examples show no legible date and year; this example is exceptional for the clarity of the strike. A rare postmark, less than ten examples known. Provenance: Van Dieten, Voerman Collection, Jan. 1995, lot 260. (Image 1) (Image 2)

A superb central cancel with the year and date fully legible on a stamp in very fine condition, with a minimal tear in bottom right corner invisible from front. Most attractive. The use of the circular date mark here was contrary to regulations; the stamp should have been obliterated by the half-round franco postmark.
