Bearing Great Britain 2½d rose and a pair of 1d red, all cancelled by “942” numeral cancellation, paying the normal rate plus the 2d late fee posting with boxed PAID/LATE FEE and Larnaca datestamp alongside, with arrival cancellation on reverse. 20041   image1879 (6 Aug.) Envelope franked Great Britain ½d rose, plate 12, vertical pair, neatly tied by numeral "942" and LARNACA/6.8.1879 cds alongside, addressed to Belgium. Underpaid for the normal foreign letter rate of 2½d per ½ oz and taxed on arrival at Larnaca Post Office with "T" and large boxed "INSUFFICENTLY PAID" handstamp. Usual transit and arrival backstamps. French, Junior Carlton Club, Pall Mall S.W., London, franked with Great Britain ½d, plate 15, and 1d red, plate 205 (pair), each cancelled by numeral "969", with superb NICOSIA/CYPRUS CDS alongside; backstamped at Larnaca and London. The addressee, Somerset French, was Cyprus’s first Postmaster, serving from July 1878 to August 1879, and later became Head Postmaster of South Africa.
