20065   image1882 incoming cover addressed to the Governor’s Assistant, Keith Wisely, at Kykko Monastery, Nicosia. Kykko Monastery served as one of the earliest military and civil headquarters under British occupation. The cover is handstamped with Larnaca Headquarter Camp datestamp 16.5.1882 on arrival. Available evidence suggests the Headquarter Camp datestamp was used solely as an arrival cancellation. One of only four recorded examples to date, making this an important and rare piece of early Cyprus postal history. Provenance: Photis Themistokleous. (Image 1) (Image 2)

20079 16 image1884 (21 June) F-size 2 piastres Registration Envelope from Famagusta to the High Council in Nicosia, uprated with the 1882 ½ piastre emerald-green, tied by the "982" barred numeral cancellation of Famagusta, with FAMAGUSTA/CYPRUS despatch circular date stamp adjacent along with HEAD QUARTER CAMP/CYPRUS arrival. The envelope bears the distinctive CYPRUS REGISTERED oval datestamp in red and is backstamped at Larnaca and Nicosia. Then redirected to Kyrenia with further Nicosia despatch and Kyrenia arrival, clearly documenting its route through the island postal network before final delivery. Punch holes at foot of envelope. This remarkable cover illustrates the postal arrangements for the British military headquarters during the early years of the administration of Cyprus. The combination of the scarce Head Quarter Camp datestamp, red registration marking, redirected usage, and multiple transit backstamps makes it an outstanding example of Victorian Cyprus postal history.
