 USS Des Moines and the Armenian Refugee Evacuation
1915 envelope from Larnaca to Egypt, franked with United States 1¢ and 2¢ stamps together with a Panama Canal 2¢ stamp, all tied by the duplex “USS DES MOINES / AM DEC 4 1915 / LARNAKA, CYPRUS” cancellation, with a matching strike on the reverse.
The USS Des Moines was one of two United States warships that participated in the evacuation of Armenian refugees from Jaffa in 1915 during the First World War. Covers cancelled aboard the vessel while at Larnaca are scarce and are closely associated
with this important humanitarian mission, making this an exceptional item of maritime and wartime postal history.

 Cyprus Railway Travelling Post Office — R.P.O. No. 5
1915 envelope addressed to Famagusta, franked on the reverse with a King George V ½ piastre stamp, tied by a very fine strike of the scarce Cyprus railway ambulant postmark “R.P.O. * CYPRUS * No. 5.”
An attractive example of mail carried by the Cyprus Government Railway Travelling Post Office. The envelope has faults, including damage to the back flap, but the railway cancellation remains exceptionally clear and well struck. (Image 1)

 Karaolos Army Camp – Active Service Mail
1915 stampless On Active Service cover cancelled with the Famagusta bag datestamp and addressed to Edinburgh, Scotland. Sent from Karaolos Camp, the principal British Army camp in Cyprus at the outbreak of the First World War, which was later
converted into a prisoner-of-war camp housing approximately 3,000 Ottoman (Turkish) prisoners. Somewhat tatty with flap and edge faults. An exceptionally rare item of military postal history, with only three examples of this usage recorded.

 British Mission with the Royal Serbian Army – Mule Depot
1916 envelope from Famagusta to London, bearing the intaglio Crown mail-bag seal “FAMAGOUSTA / CYPRUS” and the double-circle cachet “BRITISH MISSION / WITH ROYAL SERBIAN ARMY”, with manuscript endorsement “MULE DEPOT 16.6.16.”
The only recorded example bearing this cachet and transmitted through the civilian postal system. A highly important and exceptionally attractive First World War military postal-history item, in very fine condition.

 French Legion d’Orient – Monarga Camp
1917 (14,11) French soldier’s stampless postcard addressed to France, tied by the rare “TRÉSOR ET POSTES 601B” military datestamp dated 14 November 1917. The card originated from the Légion d’Orient camp at Monarga, where French forces were stationed
between 1916 and 1921. The Legion, composed largely of Armenian volunteers under French command, supported Allied operations against the Ottoman Empire during the First World War. An exceptional item of French military postal history from Cyprus,
with only a few examples recorded bearing this cancellation.

 Postage Due on Military Mail to the United States
1917 (18.6) This postage-free real photographic postcard depicting the Old Harbour Gate of Famagusta was written by a member of the Royal Scots stationed in Cyprus and addressed to the United States. Although military personnel serving within the
British Empire enjoyed free postal privileges, these did not extend to the United States. On arrival, the card was marked "COLLECT POSTAGE" and assessed "04 CENTS", reflecting the U.S. postage due charge before legislation granted free franking
privileges for mail from Allied military personnel. A scarce and attractive example of wartime postal history.

 Rare Indian Registration Handstamp Used in Cyprus
1917 Registered cover franked with a vertical strip of three 1 piastre King George V stamps, posted from Nicosia and backstamped Larnaca, 10 August 1917. The cover bears the exceptionally rare five-line Indian registration handstamp, brought to
Cyprus by the Indian Regiment during the British occupation in 1878 and subsequently retained for postal use. Only three examples of this distinctive registration marking are recorded, making this one of the rarest items of Cypriot registration
