Entire letter from Mayagüez to Barcelona, with small fumigation slits applied at the Lazareto de Mahón (Minorca), with hs including “5R” and “Yndias” straight-line featuring small “s” (a very interesting and most uncommon variety), both rarely struck in blue, backstamped with ‘Baeza’ c.d.s. on arrival and charged, for local delivery in Catalonia, with 6 maravedíes due marking. 10464   image1860 (April 17). Large envelope from Valencia, being remarkably addressed to the Captain General (highest rank in the hierarchy) of Puerto Rico stationed at San Juan, endorsed “S.M” standing for “Servicio Militar”, denoting military correspondence, with fancy cachet of a military court in the General Headquarters of Valencia and Murcia, with signatures at base and manuscript text confirming the official nature of the contents, displaying Valencia dispatch c.d.s., “A” marking for “Abono” indicating pre-payment and, delightfully struck, “España” straight-line (type 16) in blue, backstamped in transit at Madrid. Some slight aging as usually found and few worm holes at left. The only reported example of this very rare marking in blue; additionally, this is the penultimate usage documented in America of a “España” postmark. Cert. CEM. Cover from Valladolid (Spain) to the President of the High Court of Puerto Rico at San Juan, endorsed “S.N.” standing for “Servicio Nacional” as required for official correspondence, with oval cachet of the Court of Valladolid, exhibiting two strikes of dispatch c.d.s., perfectly struck with “España” straight-line in black. Few worm holes mainly at upper right. One of just two documented examples of this handstamp in black, with the main feature, conferring its rarity, being the fact of representing the latest usage recorded of a “España” postmark in America. A rare origin for a transatlantic letter, of great significance by exhibiting an extremely rare “Yndias” postmark struck in Málaga. A most scarce origin for transatlantic mail. 10469   image1811 (April 11). Entire letter from Tarragona (Spain) to Montevideo, conveyed through the Atlantic by the Spanish Royal Fleet. It is believed that this letter landed in Montevideo in a closed case and was transported to Buenos Aires by a “nave de registro”, entering this city for the application of the “España.” Straight-line in red (Kouri type VII), being forwarded to its final destination. Very few covers are recorded, sent to Montevideo, exhibiting any “España” postmark. Provenance: Camino and SItjà.(Image 1) (Image 2)

10470   imageTHE UNIQUE SHIP'S REGISTER COVER FROM VENEZUELA 1804 (Oct 11). Ship’s register cover of the “Sacra Familia” frigate sailing from Puerto Cabello to Cádiz (Spain), very attractively and freshly postmarked by “Franca.” and “Pto.Cavello” straight-line hs. As required, following the postal regulations, ship’s register covers had to be prepaid from 1784 to 1853. An exhibition item of great significance: the only colonial ship’s register cover documented as originating from Venezuela. It has to be additionally noted that only three postal items of this nature are recorded emanating from South America; a further degree of rarity is conferred by the combination, one of just two known, with the “Franca” and “Pto.Cavello” postmarks (this being the earliest usage documented).
