Double Feature: Sale 2602 | "Around the Empire: A First-Class Selection of Stamps & Postal History from the British World" - June 20, 2026
We are excited to present our upcoming Commonwealth double-feature sale in collaboration with our friend and respected philatelic colleague, Phoebe MacGillivary of Victoria Stamp Company on Saturday, June 20th, 2026.
The day will feature two distinct auctions under one roof, each offering exceptional material for collectors of classic British Commonwealth philately and postal history.
The first sale is Victoria Stamp Company Public Auction 41: The Fred Hensel Collection of Falkland Islands Stamps & Postal History.
Fred Hensel collected stamps from childhood, focusing on a select number of areas and learning them deeply. His passion for the Falkland Islands was especially reflected in his love of cork cancellations, and we are pleased to present a sizeable
holding of these popular markings both on and off cover. The collection contains a remarkable 27 covers and postal stationery cards bearing cork cancellations, alongside a wealth of off-cover stamps with carefully selected corks, many with
exceptionally fine strikes.
A true postal historian, Fred amassed a substantial holding of covers, nearly all commercial usages. We offer early incoming covers, several bisect covers, a large group of Queen Victoria postal history with interesting and unusual usages, and some
marvelous destinations. There is also a group of Formula Registered covers and much more.
The second session is Cwiakala Auctions Sale 2602: Around the Empire: A First-Class Selection of Stamps & Postal History from Across the British World.
This sale presents a focused survey of British Commonwealth philately, beginning with Great Britain and continuing through some forty territories.
Collectors will find strong representation in Bermuda, Hong Kong, Australia and States, Canada, India, and New Zealand, where varieties, postal history, and classic issues appear with unusual frequency. Elsewhere, offerings from places such as
Mauritius, British Central Africa, Niger Coast, Southern Rhodesia, Tristan da Cunha, and the Turks Islands carry the weight of more distant corners of the map.
Throughout, the emphasis is on quality over quantity: classic issues, genuine errors, elusive shades, and the kind of marginal notations that make an entry worth reading twice. Whether you collect Falkland Islands, classic Commonwealth, postal
history, or simply enjoy the stories carried through the mails, we believe there will be something here worth discovering.
