A very fine bottom margin horizontal King George VI pair with choice centering on both stamps, chalk-surfaced paper, perf 14. Full, clean color with a crisp impression. Black St. Georges receiving datestamp, Ludington type PM5, dated 27 May 1864, a notably late use of this mark as a receiving datestamp, as recorded in Forand and Freeland's "Bermuda Mails to 1865." The absence of contents precludes confirmation of the rate basis, though the franking suggests payment by weight. Front bears two London E.C. duplex arrival handstamps dated 6 January 1873, a clear "LONDON-E.C. / F / PAID / 6 JAN 73" and a partially legible "LONDON-E.C. / P / PAID / 6 JAN 73," together with the Hamilton transit circular date stamp and red manuscript "1/3" rate marking.
