VIA NEW YORK TO SOUTH AUSTRALIA: 10 Oct. 1940 5½d "F" size registered env. uprated with 5/- red used from Black Torrington via London, Lisbon (PAA 220), Horta, Azores, Bermuda, N. York, thence across USA to San Francisco by FAM 19 to Auckland. Then by TEAL service Awarua by flying boat to Sydney and S. Australia. The rate should be 4/9d mae up of 4/6d per ½oz combined rate using Pan Am and 3d registration. It would appear the sender used the env. for registration purposes and paid the 5/- rate used for other Pacific destinations. (Image)
