Lot Catalog No. Descrip Opening
141   imageCURACAO - BRITISH OCCUPATION PERIOD - RARE "CURACOA" FLEURON D.S. WITH UNIQUE "[Milford]/SHIP-LRE"; 29 Aug. 1811 (filing note) E to Rothschilds in London "P. Brig Clio" charged "1/-" (1d Ship Letter rate + inland 11d ex Milford to London) with a mainly fine strike of the very rare British Occupation "CURACOA" fleuron d.s. ("2 SE 2/1811"; the consistent error of spelling - known 1811-15 only) nicely placed on the front, alongside a unique Milford (Wales) Manuscript "Milford" above that port's very rare "SHIP-LRE" mark (Rob. S1, only recorded 1810-12). Also having a red 24 Oct. London arrival cds on the flap. Very rare British Occupation Period cover of Exhibition Quality, and the only recorded cover with this Manuscript Milford "SHIP-LRE" mark. [Ex Alan Robertson and illustrated in his Ship Letters book (p.E212B). Also ex Cavendish's 'Cymru Collection' auction, Feb. 1990; lot 704, realised £728 - the front-cover illustration for that catalogue.
