WRAPPER WITH 1841 2d BLUE STRIP OF FOUR + 1d RED FOR THE 32oz - 36oz 9d RATE; Extraordinary 16 June 1845 large part open-ended wrapper (rebacked and with toning professionally reduced) addressed to Fowey with a special printed "Par. Pro./To be Posted at the House of Commons only/POST PAID" heading, much of which is beneath the franking of a 1d Red (AF) and a Strip of Four 1841 2d Blues (EA-ED) all tied by the London "14" diamond numerals. This 9d rate was only for heavy bundles of printed Parliamentary Papers, and covered the 32oz to 36oz weight band. We are not aware of any other stamped Par. ATTRIBUTED TO LADY EDITH BLAKE: 1868 env. addressed to "Miss A. de la Poer, Gurteen, Clonmel, Ireland" franked very poor 1d red tied by "Holyhead/374" duplex with London cds on back beautifully illustrated in pen on front with 2 young ladies in a garden leaning on a classical pillar. The back flap (faults) is embossed "Newtown Anner/Clonmel" the home of Edith & Grace Osborne. Edith went on to become an accomplished botanical illustrator, so the drawing has been attributed to her. Included are an article by John Scott FRPSL which appeared in the London Philatelist (Dec. 2024) illustrating this item, and examples of her work in a Country Life article (30 July, 1970).
