LONDON" (one "PAID"), and dispatch mark. An absolutely stunning
mixed franking of identical face value, of striking appearance and
utmost quality, and an early usage of Iceland' s first postal

attempting to sell the new issue and his printed letter gives the

Italian airmail squadron under General Balbo to New York. An iconic
cover in very fine condition, signed Engel, Giulio and Alberto

4820 cover image1815-1864 British Protectorate 1859: (½ d.) orange, a single
example with large margins on three sides and shaved at base on
reverse, with (1 d.) blue with good margins on three sides and
shaved at left, used on August 1859 entire letter from Cefalonia to
Zante, each tied by rectangular framed "FRANCA" in blue. Hooded
"CEFALONIA" datestamp of despatch in blue (Aug 10) and circular
"ZAKYNTHOS" arrival cds alongside; the stamps being placed as per
regulations: 1 d. inter-island fee on the obverse and ½ d. Lloyd
ship fee on reverse. A rare issue on letter that displays well.

pair with good to large margins all round (pos. 41-42) and portion
of adjoining stamp at base, overlapping (2 d.) carmine with good to
large margins all round on May 1860 entire letter from Cefalonia to
Corfu all cancelled by large pen cross in black ink. Hooded
"CEFALONIA" despatch datestamp (May 9) in blue and small "CORFU"
cds in blue alongside of arrival (May 10). Slightest oxidisation on
the ½ pair and file fold affects the 2 d. adhesive but an extremely
rare and famous entire. Signed Pröschold. Cert. Simmermacher
(2026). Provenance: Collection Jerry Hess Barr, Mercury, New York,
25-27 Jan 1956; collection Elvo Hut, Karamitsos, Athens, 30 Nov

black, 1834 prepaid entire letter to Zante with oval framed
"FRANCA" in black, 1837 cover with fine strike of small CORFU Arms
cachet in black, 1841 entire from Constantinople via Corfu to
Zante; 1845 entire letter to Athens with good strike of "♚ / PAID
AT ZANTE" in blue, 1854 cover from Corfu to Amsterdam via Trieste,
soiled 1854 Soldier's concessionary rate entire to Glasgow with
faint "♚ / PAID AT CORFU" despatch and erroneously charged "2" due;
Great Britain 1 d. red star used on 1859 cover from the "Euraylus"
at Corfu to London (photocopy of original letter heading included,
the actual letter now missing) endorsed "via Marseilles" and tied
by fair strike of rare "A80" Mailboat obliterator in black with
London duplex below (July 13) applied when letter was locally
forwarded; and 1861 entire letter from Corfu with red cds and
"Posta Pagata" with hooded Cefalonia arrival in blue. A fine and
