1873/80: 1 s. green, plate 13, wmk. Spray, AI/EL, an unused pane of twenty subjects of fine fresh colour, full margins all round and showing Plate Number 13 at top right, full imprints in margin at base and
showing the watermark in sheet margin "MARK" and "Postage", some nibbed wing marginal perfs. at left and top left stamp with rounded wing marginal perf., some typical horizontal and diagonal creasing largely unapparent on face, the
stamps with full unmounted original gum. A magnificent and extremely rare multiple Gi = £ 10'000++. Remark: For the 1873/80, 1s green, only four panes of 20 are known to survive. None are recorded for plates 8, 9, 10 or 11.
Instead, two panes each are known from plates 12 and 13. From the two panes from plate 13, one lettered PI/TL is incomplete, having lost its lower and right sheet margins; it is not available for collectors and is illustrated in the
Philips collection, N.P.M. London, vol. XXXIV, page 13. The only remaining complete pane from plate 13 in private hands, lettered AI/EL, is offered now. Provenance: H.B. Wane collection, Harmer 10-11 November 1941, lot 361; Dr.
Douglas Latto collection, Phillips October 1992, lot 456; Bill Gross collection, Shreves 11 June 2007. (Image 1)
