1932 cover imageAustrian Occupation during the Crimean War; 1855ca (Dec 12):
Registered Military Envelope from the Austrian Fieldpost office in
Pitesti to Verona, bearing 1854 pair 3 kr. light red Type IIIa on
handmade paper in combination with 9 kr. blue Type IIIb on machine
paper, three fine and fresh adhesives tied by fine strikes of the
elusive “K.K.ÖST. F.P. PITESCHTI“ cds (Tchilinghirian fig. 765 /
Müller 3445a = 1'875 points). Reverse with HERMANNSTADT transit and
VERONA arrival (Jan 8). Exceptional application of the franking to
pay the 6 kreuzer registration fee on obverse, a fact which was
explicitly noted in manuscript on reverse by the postal clerk.
Slitted for fumigation, this touching the first and third adhesive,
nevertheless an exceptional registered cover with this sought after
datestamp. Illustrated in Edition d'Or volume 72 on page 23, cert.
Ferchenbauer (1974). Note: An item of extreme rarity presumably
unique. Tchilinghirian states: 'stampless covers, not seen, but may
exist'. PROFI knows just one outgoing and two incoming stampless
covers, not one with adhesives. (Image 1) (Image 2) (Image 3) (Image 4)
