5186 cover imageLots & Collections; Sudan Postal Stationery & Postal Orders,
1897–1993. Interesting and varied holding of Sudan postal
stationery and related material. Included are twelve 1897 Egypt 3
m. violet-brown postal cards overprinted “SOUDAN” in Arabic and
French, comprising four unused and eight used examples, including
two uprated (to Leipzig and Bolton), with useful cancellations such
as Wadi Halfa and Suakin; condition variable with some minor faults
but several fresh examples. Also the scarce 1908 Large Camel 4 m.
postal card from Khartoum to Milan (H&G 13), one of only four
recorded; and the 1913 Large Camel 5 m. deep carmine on blue
envelope used to Washington in 1916 with additional 5 m. adhesive
and triangular Sudan censor marking, from the special printing of
only 420 envelopes. Further including 1940s Camel postal orders,
notably 100 m. with amended instructions and a scarce £E1 “One
Egyptian Pound” example from the wartime shipment partially lost at
sea, together with later issued and unissued postal orders to 1993.
Condition somewhat mixed but overall a scarce and worthwhile Sudan
postal stationery and fiscal assembly. (Image 1) (Image 2) (Image 3) (Image 4) (Image 5) (Image 6)
