Lagos (Nigeria) – Postal Stationery 1879–1911, Registered Envelopes, Reply Cards & Specimens. Extensive and valuable group of Lagos postal stationery comprising registered envelopes, reply cards
and overprinted issues, both used and unused, including scarce Specimen material and uncommon foreign destinations. Notable items include the 1895 2 d. grey Registered Envelope (size I) unused (H&G C1a), one of only 1,700 printed;
1902 2 d. greenish-blue Registered Envelope with diagonal “SPECIMEN” overprint and rare violet “ULTRAMAR” handstamp; 1883 1½ d. + 1½ d. reply cards including early usages to Montenegro and Gabon; 1892 1 d. on 1½ d. overprints
including U.P.U. archive Specimen and scarce usage to Cameroon via Woermann Line; 1892 1 d. carmine cards with destinations including Germany, Cameroon and Canada; and a 1902–11 uprated and registered reply card to Prague. Further
includes a group of 1893–1907 1 d. stationery cards with origins such as Badagry, Old Calabar and Warri, and destinations including Togo, Germany, Switzerland and England, together with unused card and reply card examples.
Condition generally fine with minor faults as usual. A scarce and wide-ranging holding with strong U.P.U., maritime and destination interest. (Image 1)
