composite sheet of 40 subjects in yellowish on vertically laid
paper, good margins all round, one stamp small pinhole and closed
marginal tear at lower left mentioned for full accuracy, fresh and
fine. A scarce and attractive sheet, sold together with Jelalabad
reconstruction of the Shahi value (bottom five rows of the sheet)
all single examples printed in the brown shade and noted as being
ex Masson, and single examples in the scarcer black-brown shade of
Shahi (2), Sanar (2), ½ r. and 1 rupee. Sheet signed Todd AIEP.

from the top of the composite sheet, showing Sanar, Abasi, ½ rupee
and 1 rupee values, printed in sage green, on unwatermarked wove
paper. Large margins all round, slightly rounded at lower right but
very rare - matched with a block of fifteen from the same sheet
positions (pos. 1-5 / 11-15) in a brighter grey-green, as issued,

position 6 and 25, used on incoming cover from India bearing 1873 ½
a. blue, Die II used from Shikapore (May 10) to Kabul, Peshawar
Shahi values applied cut round and the cover appears to have been
unclaimed at destination and returned from Peshawar (May 24), with
Dead Letter office handstamp of Lahore (May 29); thence via Dead
Letter Office in Karachi and returned to sender without charge.
Some wear as to be expected but an attractive and unusual cover.

19, used on reverse of 1878 envelope with complete contents,
initially cancelled by diamond punch-hole, mailed during the 2nd
Afghan War period as placed in the Indian Postal system at
LANDIKOTAL at the Southern end of the Khyber Pass with fine strike
of circular datestamp (July 2) in black, the adhesive also tied by
PESHAWAR cds (July 3) and struck there with framed "Postage Due /
Anna" handstamp in black. A most unusual cover - the Afghan posts
