10030 cover image1843 (Aug 1): 90 r. black, fine impression (First Composite Plate, State A, pos. 4) and 30 r. black, late fine impression (First Composite Plate, State A, pos. 30), used on 15 May 1844 large part cover from Grampará to Maranhao, the 30 reis with original large margins all round and showing the gutter horizontal dividing line at base, the 90 reis with margin added at base of the stamp but unusually showing horizontal dividing line and part of the second 'semi-xipofago' line above, tied by slightly embellished framed "GRAMPARÁ" handstamp (Ayres fig. 1311) in red. Despite the repair and the cover being ironed and cleaned, a most unusual and presentable franking. 10031 cover image1843 (Aug 1): 90 reis grey-black on greyish paper, intermediate impression vertical pair from Second Composite plate, State B, positions 8 / 14, used in combination with 60 reis black, fine early impression on yellowish paper with trace of marginal rule at top, Second Composite plate, State C, position 3 on 1845 entire letter from the Pedrick correspondence from Rio de Janiero to Rio Grande. The entire endorsed "per Vapor" at lower left and stamps pre-paying the triple ship rate of 240 reis, tied by blurred "Correio Geral Da Corte" datestamps in black (April 3). Illustrated in "Bull's Eyes on Cover" by Bernd Juchert on page 166. The 90 reis has an internal repair where damaged on opening and some overall soiling and reinforcement to the entire but a significant and extremely rare letter. Signed Calves and Goebel. Certs. 10035 piece/bof imageInclinados 1844/46: 10 r. black on greyish, the famous block of twelve (3 x 4) used on piece to Portugal, the block in a deep shade with shaved to large margins all round and showing portions of five adjoining stamps, all tied by six bold strikes of framed "CEARA" handstamp in brownish-black with framed "LISBOA" arrival datestamp in blue above and displaying the misalignment of the plate with the second and third stamps almost touching. The piece with horizontal crease above the most attractive and remarkable multiple. 10038 bof imageInclinados 1844/46: 30 r. black, worn impression on thin greyish paper, Type II, a used block of thirty-two (4 x 8) with part sheet marginal rule at top and at left, positions 1-4 / 64-67, mostly good to large margins with portions of five adjoining stamps, small fault at upper right corner and typical small wrinkles and one or two minor pinholes, cancelled by nine strikes of framed "RIO BONITO" handstamps (Ayres fig. 1431) in brown. Illustrated in "Inclinados" by Bernd Juchert on page 65 and in "Inclinados" by Walter Taveira on page 171. There are two used blocks of 32 known, the other being ex Kuyas, this being by far the most attractive. A showpiece of Brazilian classic philately, the largest recorded used multiple. Cert. 10041 cover/bof imageInclinados 1844/46: 30 r. black on greyish thin paper, Type II, a block of six (2 x 3), used on reverse of 21 March 1846 entire letter from Caxias to Lisbon, Portugal tied by three strikes of circular "CORREIO DE CAXIAS" circular handstamps in red with manuscript date in red ink; prepaying the internal rate of 60 reis and the maritime rate of 120 reis due from the Brazilian post for the journey by ship on the River Itapecuru to Sao Luis and thence to Pernambuco. Unusually probably carried by hand to Lisbon to Portugal as no charge marks present on obverse. Illustrated in "Inclinados" by Bernd Juchert on page 61 and in Walter Taveira's handbook on page 340. Obverse with superb strike of framed "S. JOSE" with oval negative S. Joze wreathed arms cachet above. Rio de Janeiro transit cds adjacent (Sept 16) and reverse with further strike of same and "CORREIO GERAL DE S. PAULO" cds (Sept 25). Cruciform manuscript date alongside (September 7). The stamp with closed tear at left, slight acid ink fault and repair to flap. Illustrated in "Inclinados" by Bernd Juchert on page 43 and in "Inclinados" by Walter Taveira on page 366. The sole recorded Inclinado cover from Constituicao and believed to be the earliest recorded date of use of the 60 reis on thin paper. A most attractive cover. File fold through one stamp of the strip; illustrated in "Inclinados" by Bernd Juchert on page 40 and in "Inclinado Multiples" on page 73.
