2348 cover imageInaugural Return flight 1939 (Dec. 21): LATI publicity cover (PE9) from "PERNAMBUCO SERVICO AEREO 21.XI.39" to Rome, franked with 5'400 reis and struck with inaugural cachet "VOO INAUGURAL BRASIL ITALIA DEZEMBRO XVIII 1939" in blue, backstamped on arrival "ROMA FERROVIA (POSTA AEREA) 3-1.40" on reverse. The flight ended with a crash in the Atlas mountains near Mogador in Morocco, killing all the crew and three journalists on board. 2349 cover imageInaugural Return flight 1939 (Dec. 21): Fine selection of four covers and one card bearing special cachet 'VOO INAUGURAL BRASIL ITALIA DECEMBRO XVIII 1939' in violet or black, including covers from Rio de Janeiro to Genova and Germany, further an envelope to Amsterdam as well as one cover to Rom. In addition a charred portion of a souvenir postcard produced by LATI for the inaugural return flight to be sent to Italian companies and organisations. The flight ended with a crash in the Atlas mountains near Mogador in Morocco. "Retour à l'Envoyeur / Relations Postales / Interrompues" in violet. Further mail to Denmark, Bohemia /Moravia, censored envelope sent via Rome to Casablanca Morocco, Finland, Hungary (2), Sweden and Switzerland (8). A fine and interesting assembly. 6460 cover/bof image1862 (Oct 21): Outer letter sheet to France franked 1850 Verticais 60 r. black in a block of four and two vertical pairs & 90 r. black in combination with 1854 Coloridos 10 r. blue, all cancelled by blue framed "N. FRIBURGO" with framed "P.D." both in blue and a large format in red alongside, Brazilian and French transit as well as "SALIES-DE-BÉARN arrival (Nov. 22) backstamps. 10001 bof/(*) image1843 (Aug 1): 30 r. grey-black on greyish paper, intermediate impression, an unused block of four from the Large Plate, State A, positions 38-39/44-45, some defects including thinning and nick into the first stamp at top and with minor creasing largely unapparent on face, but with ample to large margins all round, without gum. A multiple of fine appearance and extremely rare - there being just three large unused multiples of the 30 reis (all three are in blocks of four). Illustrated in Bernd Juchert "Ochseneaugen Im Viererblock", item 6 on page 12. An extremely rare multiple of the Number One. 10005 cover image1843 (Aug 1): 30 r. black, fine impression, a vertical pair, Large Plate, State A, positions 41 / 47, used on reverse of 16 February 1848 single rate entire letter from Barra Mansa to Rio de Janeiro, the stamps of excellent rich colour and with large margins all round but re-backed to the entire, tied by framed "BARRA / MANÇA" handstamp in brown (Ayres fig. 1230), the cancellation retouched. Nevertheless an exceptional and extremely rare usage, the sole recorded Bulls Eye cover from this town. Illustrated if incorrectly described in Bernd Juchert "Bull's Eyes on Covers" on page 295 and illustrated in "Carimbos sobra os olhos-de-boi" by H. Bunselmeyer Ferreira on page 30. 10006 cover image30 reis black, late intermediate impression, the spectacular horizontal strip of three on July 1848 cover from Diamantino addressed to an Apostolic Missionary in Rio de Janeiro, obverse struck with negative "DIAMTO." handstamp in black, the exceptional adhesives (with large margins all round, third stamp small scissor cut in margin only) from the First Composite plate, State B, positions 8-10, being tied by manuscript "Agencia do Diamte...Julho de 1848" and by part "Correio Geral Da Corte" arrival datestamp (July 20) in black. Illustrated in Bernd Juchert "Bull's Eyes on Covers" on page 183. A rare example of the ¾ ounce rate and a delightful and extremely rare cover: the sole recorded cover bearing a strip of three 30 reis and the sole recorded usage from Diamantino. Cert.
