7095 cover imageMail abroad - Bisected stamp on printed matter to Amsterdam; 1855 (Dec 7): Printed matter Cover from Prague to Amsterdam bearing two examples of 1 kr. orange on handmade paper, type III, two fresh adhesives in a deep shade, the right adhesive showing variety: “white dot in the eagle”, with good to large margins, the left one bisected diagonally with both parts put on the cover, both halves slightly shifted against each other, tied by two strikes of a framed “PRAG 7 / 12 / 3 U.” datestamp, reverse with “LEIPZIG 8 12 MAGEDEB:” TPO datestamp and “AMSTERDAM 9 / 12 1855” arrival cds in red. A most unusual franking to pay correctly the 2 kreuzer printed matter in the June 1851 rate to the Netherlands, presumably no postal fraud as all adhesives belong to the same sheet. 7098 cover imageMail abroad - USA; 1851 (Aug 26): Envelope from Freywaldau / Jeseník to New York, endorsed "Via Liverpool Steamer", bearing 9 kr. blue type IIb on handmade paper, a fresh example in intense colour with overall good to large margins, shaved at top left, tied by FREYWALDAU cds in black and London "PAID AU 30 1851" transit cds in red, FRANCO and framed "Aus Oesterreich" handstamps as well as US '5' c. internal due in black alongside. Reverse with NEISSE and AACHEN transit as well as three German ambulant datestamps. The adhesive paid the postage until the border of the GAPU, '40' kreuzer were paid in cash and noted on reverse to pay the postage until the US harbour, an unusual item full of postal history with part franking. Cert. Ferchenbauer (2003) Ferchenbauer = € 2'000+. Note: The post office of Freywaldau had a 'weakness' for full or partial cash prepayments, see the cover to Belgium before. YORK / 30 / Am PKt PAID / NOV 26" arrival cds in red alongside. Reverse with German ambulant datestamp and 'f11' (silbergroschen) weiterfranko beyond the GAPU. Entire with vertical folds aside the adhesives, some traces of humidity, nevertheless an impressive item full of postal history. Cert. Ferchenbauer (1991) Ferchenbauer unlisted combination. An extremely rare usage of a First Issue adhesive on its last possible day, presumably unique for Bohemia, cert. Karl Huber (1978) Ferchenbauer = € 12'000. Note: On 1 November 1858 the new kreuzer ö. W. currency had been introduced and the second issue came into use. Stamps of the First Issue in kreuzer C. M. could be used until the end of December 1858. 7102 cover imageFirst Day of the Second Issue; 1858 (Nov 1): Envelope from Chrudim to Hohenmauth / Vysoké Mýto, bearing 5 kr. red type I, tied by CHRUDIM single circle datestamp in black (Votoček E.1) with the date perfectly visible, reverse with HOHENMAUTH arrival cds (Votoček E.1) of the next day. Perforation of the adhesive stained, nevertheless a remarkable item as it is with high probability a very rare usage of a Second Issue adhesive on its first possible day, sent from a small post office, presumably unique for Bohemia. Cert. Ferchenbauer Ferchenbauer = € 15'000 for a first day cover. Note: On 1 November 1858 the new kreuzer ö. W. currency had been introduced and the second issue came into use. The first plates were redone already in December 1858 and stamps from the first plate are nearly not found in November 1859 which speaks for a First Day Usage of type I on this cover. 7109 cover imageCombination franking of the first and second issue; 1858 (Dec 14): Registered Cover from Reichenberg / Liberec to Prague bearing on front 1854 9 kr. C.M. blue type IIIb on machine paper in combination with 1858 5 kr. red type I, two additional examples on reverse paying the registration surcharge, the adhesives on front overall fresh and fine, those on reverse torn during opening of the letter, one stamp with missing corner, all tied by REICHENBERG single circle datestamp (Müller 2336b / Votoček E.1), RECOMMANDIRT handstamp alongside on obverse, reverse with boxed PRAG arrival datestamp of the following day. Horizontal file folds well away from the franking, in spite of its imperfections a most interesting combination usage which was possible only in November and December 1858. During that period, the 9 kreuzer C.M. stamp was used as being equal to the new 15 kreuzer ö.W. adhesive with the 1850/54 colour code used furthermore. The franking pays therefore correctly 20 kreuzer ö.W. for a double-rate cover within the second rayon with additional 10 kreuzer ö.W. added for registration on reverse. A desirable combination, signed A. Diena & Grioni; cert. Ferchenbauer (2014) Ferchenbauer = € 55'000+. Provenance John Simon collection; Corinphila sale 194 (November 2014), lot 5060.
