C.M. brown type III on machine paper in combination with 1858 5 kr. dark red type I, two fresh and fine examples with fair to huge margins and normal to ideal perforation, respectively, each adhesive tied by ZNAIM single circle datestamp, reverse with WIEN transit and PESTH arrival cds's (Dec 18). A rare combination usage which was possible only in November and December 1858. During that period, the 6 kreuzer C.M. stamp was used as being equal to the new 10 kreuzer ö.W. adhesive with the 1850/54 colour code used furthermore. The franking pays therefore correctly 15 kreuzer ö.W. for a cover within the third rayon over 20 miles. A perfect match to the next lot, cert. Ferchenbauer (2025) Ferchenbauer = € 11'000. C.M. bright red type IIIc on machine paper in combination with 1858 10 kr. brown type I, two fresh and fine examples with good to large margins and good perforation, respectively, the 10 kr. adhesive well embossed, each adhesive tied by light OLLMÜTZ single circle datestamp, reverse with boxed PRAG transit and ornamental ZDITZ arrival datestamps (Nov 16). A rare combination usage which was possible only in November and December 1858. During that period, the 3 kreuzer C.M. stamp was used as being equal to the new 5 kreuzer ö.W. adhesive with the 1850/54 colour code used furthermore. The franking pays therefore correctly 15 kreuzer ö.W. for a cover within the third rayon over 20 miles. A perfect match to the lot before, cert. Ferchenbauer (1999) Ferchenbauer = € 22'500. 7116 cover image1861 (Nov 28): Registered Entire letter from Cerhowitz / Cerhovice to Tischnowitz / Tišnov bearing on front 1861 2 kr. yellow, five examples and one single example of 5 kr. red, and on reverse again five examples 2 kr. yellow, the 2 kreuzer adhesives partially in multiples, fine and fresh examples with good perforation, fresh colour and well embossed, tied by seven strikes of wreathed ZERHOWITZ double circle datestamp (Müller 3340a / Votoček 313 G.28), decorative "Recomandirt / ZERHOWITZ" handstamp (not in Müller / Schubert = II6!! points / Votoček 3111 = 600 points) on obverse, reverse with boxed PRAG and circular BRÜNN transit as well as ornamental TISCHNOWITZ arrival cds (Nov 30). One 2 kr. adhesive with corrected perforation, minute patina of the cover, nevertheless a phantastic combination and mass franking to pay correctly 15 kreuzer for the third rayon over 20 miles plus the 10 kreuzer registration fee. Ferchenbauer = € 4'300 for the franking on obverse + € 2'000 for the registration franking. 7117 cover imageDocuments - Usage of a revenue stamp instead of a newspaper signette; 1858 (Dec 16): Frontpage of the 'Böhm. Leipaer Wochenblatt." no. 50 of 16 December 1858 bearing on front 1858 (Nov) revenue stamp - Ankündigungsstempelmarke 2 kr. light blue & black, a fine and fresh example, tied by fiscal obliterator and newspaper print. A very rare usage of which are only four newspapers from December 1858 are known, cert. Puschmann (2009) Ferchenbauer = LP. Note: In November and December 1858 in very rare cases Ankündigungsstempelmarken - Announcement revenue stamps were used instead of so called Zeitungssignetten. The describer knows of four examples of the 'Böhmisch Leipaer Wochenblatt' issued in Böhmisch Leipa / Česká Lípa where this irregular substitute was done. Two usages from 16 December 1858 (the present item & the example shown in the Ferchenbauer handbook, vol 2 on page 591) and two usages from 23 December 1858 (one ex Rothschild, mentioned in Glaube on page 200, sold in Köhler sale 210 (Dec 1973), lot 3070; the other ex Ludlow C. 7120 cover imageMail abroad - Saxony, GAPU; 1863 (May 20): Envelope from Karlsbad / Karlovy Vary to Leipzig Sachsen, forwarded to Kötzschenbroda nearby Dresden, bearing in the middle Austria 1861 10 kr. brown, a fine and fresh example with good perforation, fresh colour and well embossed, tied by CARLSBAD single circle datestamp, reverse with LEIPZIG arrival cds (May 23). Redirected there and franked with two single examples of King Johann ½ ngr. black on grey in type II, overall fine and fresh, partially shaved, tied by 'Nummerngitterstempel' numeral "2" of Leipzig, the left adhesive also by Leipzig STADTPOST despatch cds (May 23). The receiver was obviously not found immediately and three AUSGABE distribution cds's were struck on reverse. A most appealing country combination franking paying correctly the postage for the second rayon to Leipzig and for a letter of more than 5 miles within Saxonia. Signed Knapp; cert. Steiner (2011). The cover was opened for display on three sides and shows three wax seals of the sender, two by the French PO following the regulations and one seal covering partially the franking on reverse. Most attractive double rate cover to France with twice 25 kr. for the postage and 21 kr. registration fee on reverse, receiver is the genre and portrait painter Viktor Schubert-Soldern from Prague who lived between 1866 and 1870 in Paris. STRASBOURG 12 SEPT 67" entry cds, both in red alongside, reverse with PARIS arrival cds in red and indistinct "EXPOSITION UNIVERSELLE" cds in black (Sept 12). The cover was opened on three sides for display and shows five wax seals of the sender on reverse following the regulations. "P.P." in red, French "AUTRICHE 30 JUIN 63 ERQUELINES 2" entry cds in blue, and Spanish "8 Rs" due in red alongside. The 10 kreuzer adhesive with minor irregularities at left, nevertheless a most attractive franking paying the single rate to the French - Spanish border with 13 Kr. for Austria and 18 kr. for France. Total postage is calculated with 15 kr. for the GAPU and 54 kr. for the services beyond and noted on front. A most appealing cover to the United States, overpaid by 1 kreuzer. Cert. Ferchenbauer (1982). Note: The cover is directed to Ebenezer Alfred Johnson (1813-1891), professor of Greek and Latin Literature at the University of the City of New York (1839-1891).
