4837 (*) imageNyasaland Protectorate 1911 (June 16): De La Rue composite Essay for proposed £ 25 value, the design showing Edward VII head-plate even though George V had ascended to the throne in May 1910, stamp size imperforate on thick card (89 x 114 mm.) with frame hand-painted in deep bright green and lettering in Chinese white, the £25 Duty Plates at top and NYASALAND PROTECTORATE in red on card paper applied over the handpainted design. Marked "A3." at top and dated "June 16th 11" at upper right, and in pencil at base "Colours in all designs submitted reversed". One of three such De La Rue Essays proposed for the high 'Gun License' stamp, this however inscribed REVENUE / REVENUE, the others inscribed POSTAGE / REVENUE or POSTAGE / POSTAGE, all are dated on the same day. 4841 **/*/bof/(*) image1891/1951: Specialised collection housed within a green Marini album, unused and used on 25 pages. In the main the assembly is of a good standard, with a number of complete sets and Specimen sets and a detailed study of the high-value varieties and shades/paper. This includes singles used and unused, blocks of four and multiples incl. 1903 Definitive unused set of nine values 1 d. to £ 1 fresh and very fine (Gi 59-66), complete set and specimen set of the thirteen values from the 1921/33 ½ d. to 10 s. (Gi 100-113) which leads to a more technical examination of the George V 2 s. to 10 s. values (Gi 190-111 & 113) with several examples of the "Break in Scroll" variety. There is an unused block of twenty-five of the George VI 2 s. 6 d. black & red on blue showing requisition number '595' and part Plate Number "1" (Gi 140).
