10126 cover imageColoridos 1861: 430 reis yellow, a magnificent horizontal strip of three, full margins all round and probably sheet marginal at right, in a fine vibrant shade, used on 1870 triple rate cover endorsed "via Bordeaux" to Basel, Switzerland tied by segmented cork handstamps in black with Rio de Janeiro despatch cds (July 6) alongside. Framed "P.D." in red at right and carried on Steamer "Gironde" with "Bresil / Bordeaux" entry marking in blue (July 27) and Basel arrival on reverse of the following day. The envelope with corner opening tear at right and small part of flap missing but an extraordinarily rare franking with just two triple rate frankings known bearing this issue and mailed to a most unusual destination. Signed Calves. Cert. Scheller (2008). 10127 cover imageColoridos 1866: 430 r. yellow, perf. 13½, in a vertical pair tied by sunburst segmented cork cancellations in black to 1869 cover from Rio de Janeiro to Florence, Italy at double rate carried on the French Packet "Gironde". Framed "P.D." in red at right alongside "Rio de Janeiro" despatch cds (Dec 16). Reverse with Firenze arrival cds (Jan 9, 1870). The envelope with slight nick at right well away from the adhesives which have been lifted for examination and hinged back to the cover. Illustrated in Edition D'Or vol. 59 on page 71.
