10063 bof image60 reis grey-black, Intermediate Impression on yellowish paper, the magnificent vertical block of ten from the 2nd. Large Plate, State B (positions 5-6/11-12/17-18/23-24/29-30) and thus from the top right corner of the sheet, with outer frame line visible at top. Huge margins all round and neatly cancelled by "Correio Geral Da Corte" datestamps (April 8, 1845). But for a horizontal crease in margin between the third and fourth rows a faultless and delightful multiple of the utmost importance in Brazilian philately. Illustrated in "Die Ochsenaugen" by Jose Kloke on page 47; and in Juchert "Ochsenaugen im Viererblock" on page 51. Originally illustrated in "Bulls Eyes" L.G. Brookman's artcile on Saul Newbury's collection in the Collectors Club (1943) on page 136, when the multiple was a vertical block of twenty, this being both the finest and most attractive of the two multiples (the lower block has the eighth stamp with large closed tear). A truly wonderful Exhibition piece for the specialist. Provenance: Collection Lieut.-Colonel G.S.F. Napier (1923); Guilherme Guinle (1937); Saul Newbury (1967); Norman S. Hubbard, Siegel, New York, 25 May 1986, lot 2058; Dr. Hugo Goeggel, Corinphila sale 178, Feb 2013, lot 4122. Note: Lieut.-Colonel G.S.F. Napier in "Brazil" states on page 15 that the block of 20 proved "that there was a large plate in existence as well as the small panes of 18"(Image 1) (Image 2)

10064 cover image60 reis grey-black, Intermediate Impression, a fine used example on 2 April 1845 cover to Rio de Janeiro neatly cancelled "Lorena" in manuscript in cruciform design. The stamp affected by light horizontal bend but displays well on reverse of cover. Illustrated in Juchert "Bull's Eyes on Covers" on page 208 and "Bull's Eyes" by H. Bunselmeyer Ferreira on page 227. Rare and very appealing cover - just four intact covers known showing the usages of manuscript cancellations. Certs. Sismondo (2006), Scheller (2008) and Moorhouse (2010). Provenance: C. Gartner, March 2011, lot 6286(Image 1) (Image 2) (Image 3) (Image 4)

Just six covers known from Cuiaba, illustrated in Juchert "Bull's Eyes on Covers" on page 174. Some acid ink imperfections within the entire but a rare and most appealing cover. Cert.
