90 reis black, Early Impression in a corner marginal horizontal pair showing the horizontal frame line at top and vertical frame line at right (positions 5-6), used on piece (Duarte correspondence) with 60 reis black, Early
Impression, a corner marginal example (position 13) showing the horizontal frame line at base and vertical frame line at left (the adhesives all from the Second Composite Plate, State A); all tied by "CORREIO GERAL DA CORTE" datestamps (5.8.43) in
black of the fifth day of issue (whilst the second year slug is missing it is unlikely that Early Impressions of this density of shade would be used in August 1844 from the capital). Vertical crease between the second and third stamps where
originally folded to show the 90 reis pair only, an exceptional and extremely rare piece. Provenance: Dr. J. A. Almeida Dias, Harmer Rooke, London, 7-8 March 1963, lot 286; Tevfik Kuyas, SG, Frankfurt, May 1978, lot 181; Everaldo Santos, Afinsa,

90 reis black, Early Impression in a corner block of four, positions 1-2/7-8 and showing the vertical frame line at left and horizontal frame line at top, in combination with single 30 reis grey, Worn Impression, all applied
to a 12 page judicial document mailed on January 14, 1845 from Cabo Frio to the Court in Rio de Janeiro, tied by framed "CABO FRIO" handstamps (Ayres fig. 1248) in black. The rate totals 390 reis which is explained by the fact that judicial mail was
carried at half the normal rate. The page has been restored to prevent further acid ink attack to the adhesives but this remarkable document is an important facet of Brazilian classic philately and is in all senses unique. Cert. Comelli (2003) and
Dr. Goeggel. Note: See the article by Everaldo Santos FRPSL in the London Philatelist, Volume 124, Oct 2015, for a full discussion on the usages of Bull's Eyes and their multiples and usages on judicial forms(Image 1)

Inclinados 1844/46: 10 reis black, a wonderful used block of thirty-two (4 x 8), full corner sheet marginal from lower right corner of the sheet with good to large margins all round and showing further portions of eleven other
stamps, showing the typical slight misalignments of the subjects and the narrowness of the margins, some typical natural pinholes, cancelled by multiple strikes of the "PERNAMBUCO SHIELD" datestamps in black. Walter G. Taviera states "A magnificent
block of great rarity" in his book "Brasil 1844-1846: Inclinados" on page 151 and the block illustrated on page 150. The third largest known multiple, and the second largest recorded used multiple (and much more attractive than the larger block). A
showpiece of the issue. Provenance: Alfred H. Caspary, Harmers, New York, 3 June 1958, lot 521; Corinphila sale 196, May 2015, lot 700(Image 1)

30.10.2024: THE 60 REIS ADHESIVES ARE BOTH TYPE IIa. NO CHANGE TO START PRICE.
Inclinados 1844/46: 60 r. black, Types I and II, two horizontal pairs with large margins mostlly all round (RHM 6+6A),
used on 1846 entire letter written from New York to John Pedrick, the US Consul in Rio Grande, endorsed "pr. Kathleen via Rio"; tied on application by Forwarding Agent with notation on reverse ("Rec'd and forwarded by "Coleman Hutton & Co.") in
manuscript, by "CORREIO GERAL DA CORTE" datestamps (Oct 28) in black. Carried at triple the Maritime rate of 240 reis, being one of just three covers recorded - see W.G. Taveira "Inclinados" page 356. A rare and spectacular cover, especially with the
adhesives on the obverse of the cover. Note: A most unusual routing - there was no direct American Packet at this date; unique showing both types of the 60 reis. Provenance: Collection R. Seabra Benavides; DF, 1-5 Nov 1994, lot 11218; Marcos Chusyd,
