Pioneering Aviation flight, cover from Alexandria, Egypt to Basra City (now Iraq), dated 1st August 1923, franked with horizontal pair 20 m., tied by Alexandria datestamp in black, sent at 40 mils. for 20 gms. rate (15 mils. surface rate and 25 mils. air fee), endorsed 'air mail' and with cachet 'air mail' alongside, to reverse Baghdad transit dated 4th August 1923 and Basra arrival 6th August, scarce example. 1932/1940, Egypt air mail study, comprising eight covers, including two crash/wreck mail items with "Damaged by Sea Water" cachets, one from the 1937 "Cygnus" flying boat incident at Brindisi, also noted 1936 First Flight Alexandria to Brindisi carried by "Canopus" and test letter from Alexandria to London with typed endorsement; "RMA Capella 1st Flight 2-day Westbound Schedule Alexandria/Southampton 27th Feb 1937", frankings mostly air mail stamps although some in combination with King Fuad I and one cover with Farouk I issues with an air mail adhesive, also includes a censor mail cover from British Army Post Office in Egypt to Ireland, sent at the special forces rate of 40 m., neatly mounted and described upon exhibition pages, a scarce assembly. 1866: 10 pa. brown, perf. 12½, a used block of four on 1867 cover to Cairo paying thje 1 piastre rate, tied by three strikes of "POSTE VICE-REALI EGIZIANE / ZAGASIK" cds's (June 21) in black with information strike at left. Reverse with Cairo arrival cds of the same day. The cover was mailed during the 1 piastre stamp shortage period at the end of June 1867 when the 2 piastre stamp is found bisected in Cairo and Alexandria - it appears by this franking that the shortage also occurred in Zagasik. 1866: 2 pi. yellow, perf. 12½, a used vertical pair on cover to Monsieur Kiverk Bay, in Constantinople, honorifically addressed in three languages, most probably posted on board steamer at Alexandria where cancelled by a complete strike of the 81 point 'retta' handstamp in black. The 4 piastre franking represents a quadruple 'Port to Port' franking between Alexandria and Constantinople, but whilst the envelope is large, it could also represent an over-franking to recognise the seniority of the addressee, a frequent practice at this date within the Ottoman empire. 1891-1952: almost complete collection, just a dew older stamps from the first Victoria issue missing, from 1904 all complete unused, from 1904 only lightly hinged, also often several shades of a stamp and including the rare 2½ d. South Georgia provisional from 1928, 5 Sh Penguin with both shades and of course 10 Sh and 1 £ stamp. From ca. 1935 the unmounted stamps prevail.
