7097 image"Cavallini di Sardegna" 1827 (6 July): Definitive issue 15 c. embossed, used abroad from Geneva to Evian, the embossing is strong and distinct, the sheet is intact with message on three pages, fresh for the period, a very fine and scarce usage from Switzerland to upper Savoy, Cert. Sorani (1999) Sassone = € 1'800 for a regular use.rnNote: Presumably the only known 'Cavallini' cover used abroad including private transport for the Swiss part of the journey, from Geneva to the Sardinian border. In the Corinphila sale 173 (April 2012), lot 499, another cover from the same correspondence, but in that case from Evian to Geneva was sold. 1221 image1831: Cover sent from Walachia, Romania to Kragujevac, Serbia, dated 12 March 1831, addressed to Prince Miloš Obrenovic, the letter crossing the border into Serbia being disinfected at Porec Quarantine station, manuscript endorsement to reverse 'Preslo preko Kontumaca Poreckog / 11 Marta 831' ('Passed via Contumacy Porec / 11 March 831'); Porec was established as a quarantine station in the Principality of Serbia operating for just six months in 1831; clean outer letter sheet, rare.rnNote: Miloš Obrenovic (1780 to 1860), also known as Miloš the Great, was the Prince of Serbia on two occassions, 1815 to 1839, and 1858 to 1860. During the first Serbian uprising he was an eminent figure and the leader of the Second Serbian uprising. He was the founder of the House of Obrenovic and during his rule Serbia became an autonomous principality within the Ottoman Empire.rn  (Image 1)

Light horizontal file fold well away from the adhesives, some acid ink imperfections at base of cover, nevertheless an appealing double rate item. Ex collection Provera, cert.
